A Haiku for You
Heavy snowfall today in Albany, New York. It inspired me to make a video on Haiku (Japanese poetic form) which must have three sentences with 17 syllables. 1st sentence - 5 syllables, 2nd (7 syllables) and 3rd (5 syllables). Once again, I used Google Search Stories Video Creator to make my video.

Advantages of using iPods and cellphones in school / classroom
The availability of iPods and cellphones have opened up a new way for teachers in teaching their students. The use of these new technologies when used correctly can help students to learn in creative ways. The iPods and cellphones can be used in the following ways.
- Polling activities, calculation tools,
- Web browsing to find information, research and read news, articles and current events
- Explore Google Maps and learn to use GPS
- Use QR codes in learning activities
- School projects. Record video and audio to create video projects and podcasts.
Some rules pertaining to the use of iPods and Cell phones in School / Classroom
Draw up a set of rules to ensure the safe use of iPods and cell in schools.
Students need to know that these basic rules and follow them:
- No usage of iPods and cell phones during instructional time.
- Do not use the devices for bullying or harassing other students .
- Do not use iPods and cell phones for cheating in examinations - recording and sending questions and answers
- Sexting is not allowed - taking inappropriate photographs of other students and distributing them.
- You should not use your mobile devices to conduct any activities that are unlawful - drugs transactions, criminal or gang-related activities or similar activities.
If they have involved in those activities, the school will hand over those cases to the police for further actions.
They must be made to understand that if they do not follow these rules and use their devices that is detrimental to other students or tarnish the good name of teachers and school, they will face disciplinary actions and parents will be notified.
Other measures that school could implement:
- Perhaps the school could ask a police officer to come to give a talk on the consequences of misuse of mobile devices in the school.
- Parents sign agreement on the terms and conditions on the use of iPods and cell phones in school and be given a copy of the agreement. This is to ensure mutual understanding of the rules set by the school and cooperation from all parties.

First Day In School
Could you still remember how your first day in school like? I still do.
I was apprehensive. Scared of what would happened to me the entire day. At the same time I was excited to get to know my new friends and teachers.
I remembered that my teacher would tell us to raise our hands if we want to say something, ask any questions or just to ask permission to go to the restrooms.
These three videos summed up all these experiences.
Man and Technology
I would see the relationship of man and technology as illustrated below:
---- man create tools (stone tools)--> basic society formed ---> man create tools (iron tools) -----> modern society
---- Man leads nomadic life (Paleolithic Age)
-----> little technological knowledge in constructing tools (basic crude tools)
-----> No agricultural activities
------> Causing them to lead nomadic lifestyle in search of food (fruits and animals) to avoid food supply depletion in a place.
Neolithic Age: Primitive men created stone tools (technology)
------> tools (technology) shaped society
------> tools have become more refined - cutting tools and also tools to cultivate crops
------> With ability to cultivate food, they stayed put and live in communities
Iron age:
------> start making tools from iron and bronze
------> making axes, sickles, knives and spears.
-------> live in communities
Modern age:
- Devices that improve the lives of man ---> meeting consumers' needs ----> meeting consumers' wants
-----> telephones, automobiles, trains, airplanes, light bulbs, computers and etc.
-----> early technology developer mostly individuals and small groups
-----> large corporations became developers of technology

Computer Lab Safety
To ensure safety while using computers there are some important precautions that teachers and students need to observe.
Among them are:
a) No food or drinks in computer laboratories.
- to avoid liquid spillage that might endanger computer users (electrocution) and cause damages to the computers.
- to ensure the laboratories and working areas are clean.
b) Report any exposed wirings in the laboratories.
c) Report if there is smoke, electrical sparks or they smell something burnt.
d) Never touch the computers if their hands are wet
e) Never pry the computer casing or try to repair the computers.
f) Never detach or attach any cables. Inform the ETS or person in charge to do it for you.
g) Do not play or fool around in the computer laboratories.
h) Do not fiddle or play with any electrical power sources.
i) Use fire extinguishers (not water) to put fires of electrical appliances in the events of
emergencies

My Educational Technology Philosophy
I believe technology should be used to help students in learning. Being digital natives, students are surrounded by technologies around them. They are exposed to all kinds of gadgets and media. Technology excites students. Videos and animations are captivating and attract the attention of the students. Music excites students. Sounds excite young people, so why not use them? Pictures have the same effects. Technology is so exciting and engaging with its multimedia capabilities and offer multitude of possibilities in teaching students and getting students to participate in their learning. Teachers should embrace technology and use it for educational purposes. Every teacher must play their part in this matter.
I believe every student should have every opportunity to learn how to use technology. The Internet has a lot of excellent materials and tools that will enrich students’ learning. Teachers of any subjects can do this. Teachers are in the position to get the students ready for the future. The world is going global. I believe students’ learning should be beyond the classroom walls. It is not enough to teach students the contents in the textbooks. They need to learn to access and use information. They also need to learn to create and share information. These can be done by students by using blogs and wikis. Through these activities they will learn how to cooperate, collaborate and take responsibility of their own learning. In this way they will develop self-learning, be creative, able to think, organize and share their ideas through writing or by creating multimedia presentations.
I believe that all students should have a level playing field. All students should know and be familiar with technology. Even for students without internet access at home, I will make sure that they will have the opportunity to learn what Internet is. HTTrack Website Copier program can be used to download the websites and show the webpages as if they are surfing the website in real-time. As a teacher I do not want them to miss out on what is available on the Internet. Students should have opportunity to get to know technology. Teachers need to look for solutions in this matter. Other than downloading the websites, I will download materials such as videos, animations, interactive exercises and et cetera from the Internet to help them to learn. In this way, I could ensure students would not lose the opportunity to learn using technology.
I believe that students learn better with technology. We should let students discover and explore the Internet. Let them find knowledge for themselves. I believe that one’s best learning is through self-exploration. When one starts exploring to learn things on his own, it promotes intrinsic self-motivation. This is very important for his success in life. Every student has the right to be successful in his studies. I, as a teacher will play my part in guiding and helping my students to be successful. In the course of using technology to help them in their studies, I will teach them to use technology as good digital citizens should such as using technology responsibly, respecting the rights of others, be aware of privacy issues, respecting intellectual properties and other tenets of good digital citizenship.
